What is pH?

pH measures how acidic or basic your pool water is on a scale of 0-14. The ideal range for pools is 7.2-7.6.

Why does pH matter?

  • Low pH (<7.2): Can cause metal corrosion, eye and skin irritation, and damage to pool equipment
  • High pH (>7.6): Can cause scale formation, cloudy water, and reduce chlorine effectiveness

How to adjust pH

  • To raise pH: Use Soda Ash (Sodium Carbonate)
  • To lower pH: Use Muriatic Acid or pH Decreaser
Tip: Always test your pH at least twice a week and after heavy rain or pool use.
